7 Signs That You Should Have Your Water Quality Tested

Water is the source of life. It is 55 - 75% of our makeup with infants and children having the highest percentage of water in their bodies. We cook with water, drink cold and hot drinks made with water, wash our clothes and ourselves. We water our plants, the lawn, wash our cars and windows. The list goes on and on. So how do you know if you have poor water quality? Keep reading to find out seven signs.

1. It doesn’t quite smell right.

If you have an odor coming from your water, something is wrong. For example, if your water has a rotten egg smell, you may have a higher than normal level of hydrogen sulfide gas. While the presence of hydrogen sulfide gas is not a health issue, it’s never enjoyable to sip on a glass of stink.

2. The flavour is off.

If your water contains a metallic, bitter, salty or other off-taste, it is suggested to have it tested to determine what could be causing this. Some tastes may not be linked to adverse contaminants but there’s nothing more enjoyable than drinking a tall glass of clean, refreshing water. The best route to take when the flavour of your water is off is to get it tested to find out the cause. Once your water test has determined what the issue is an appropriate treatment can take place.

3. The water is cloudy.

If your water is cloudy, murky, or tinged with color, it may contain contaminants that should be removed. Quality water should be clear to the eye and have no specific taste. Cloudy water interferes with UV (ultraviolet) Disinfection Systems. The team at Huckson’s are able to help you with cloudy water issues. Just give us a call and let us know more about your situation.

4. Your water is leaving stains on your clothes and surfaces.

Some water contaminants can produce stains on objects they come into contact with. These stains can appear on clothes after a washing machine cycle, dishes and silverware cleaned by a dishwasher, and plumbing surfaces like toilet bowls, bathtubs, and sinks.

5. Do Your plumbing fixtures and surfaces have noticeable buildup?

That crusty white substance on your shower head is caused by hard water. Hard water attacks plumbing fixtures and surfaces. It can also shorten the lifespan of any appliance that uses water. Additionally, if your soap doesn’t lather well or bathing makes your skin and hair feel dry, you probably have hard water. There’s a lot of options when treating hard water. Take a look at our services to find out more. (link to services page.)

6. Your home has frequent plumbing problems.

Your home’s pipes and plumbing appliances are in constant contact with your tap water. Certain water quality issues, such as hard water and low pH levels, can wreak havoc on your home’s plumbing system, causing frequent clogging and leaks. If it seems like you are constantly making calls to the plumber, installing a water treatment system might be just what you need to relieve your home’s plumbing issues.

7.  People in your family often get sick.

Certain water contaminants can make you and your family sick often presenting as stomach problems and especially after long-term exposure. To make matters worse, many of the contaminants that affect people’s health have no taste or smell. If anyone in your family gets sick often and there is no obvious explanation, the problem might be your tap water.

So what do you do when you are unsure of your water quality?

If you are worried about the water you and your family are ingesting, the absolute best way to find out if your home needs a water treatment system is to schedule a professional water quality test with Huckson’s Water Depot.
We will test your home’s water for many different contaminants and provide you with a report of our findings. You can use that information to decide whether or not your home needs a water treatment system and, if it does, to choose the right system for your water’s particular quality issues.
